3-Day DC Black History Tour

Only in our nation’s capital can you stand where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said the famous words, “I have a dream,” that now stand as a national anthem for civil rights and equality. He said them at the beautiful Lincoln Memorial, just one of the D.C. attractions you’ll visit on the National Mall and beyond in Washington D.C. Other attractions include Howard University, the African-American Civil War Museum, and the Museum of African Art.

Frederick Douglas National Historic Site
Take a walk through the house of one of America’s first great black speakers. A great place for groups to learn about the struggle of African Americans through the 1800’s.

 

African American Civil War Museum
Visit the world’s only memorial dedicated to the African American Troops that fought for all our freedom during the civil war.

 

Howard University
Take a tour of this historic university and plan for your group’s future!

 

Lincoln Park
See beautiful Lincoln Park and visit the memorial statues of both President Abraham Lincoln, whom the park is named for, and Mary McLeod Bethune, a noted civil rights activist.

 

 

Mary McLeod Bethune House
Tour the home of one of America’s key civil rights activists from the early to mid 1900’s.

White House photo opportunity
Your group will approach the White House for a photo with this famous building as the backdrop.

 

Capitol Hill Tour
Take an tour of the Capitol Building and experience the history of the United States.

National Archives
Visit the National Archives, home to the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution.

 

Anacostia Museum & Center for African American History and Culture
Established in 1967, this Museum shows the community’s history and gives groups a chance to narrow the focus of their tour on the effect of world affairs on a single neighborhood.

Arlington National Cemetery
Arlington National Cemetery gives groups the opportunity to walk among headstones that mark our history and honor our nation’s war heroes.

 

Iwo Jima Memorial
This grand memorial reflects the unrelenting courage of the United States Marine Corps in the battle of Iwo Jima.

 

Smithsonian Museum on the National Mall
Take some time to explore the Museums! With many museums in the national mall, your group will enjoy hours of discovery.

 

Museum of African Art
This museum highlights art from the Cradle of Humanity, Africa.

 

Lincoln Memorial
Visit the site of Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I have a dream…” speech.

 

Vietnam Veterans Memorial
This memorial was designed to be a place to remember the fallen soldiers of the Vietnam War and has become a representation of the courage of our armed forces.

 

Korean War Memorial
With larger than life statues, this memorial honors those who gave their lives during the Korean War.

 

FDR Memorial
Along the Cherry Tree Walk sits the 32nd President of the United States in a serene location. It is a beautiful memorial of his life and his work as our leader.
